This 12th update marks one year of sharing Data Lake’s latest developments and progress with you in our newsletters. We’ve come a long way since the first update, and we’re in an incredibly exciting period of growth that is cementing us as a global leader in ethical access to medical data. All of this would not be possible without our investors and community, and we would like to thank you for the vital role you are playing. So, without further ado, let’s get into what we accomplished in April and what we are preparing for the future!
👀 Branding Sneak Peek
As you may have noticed, this month’s newsletter features our new branding, and we’re almost ready to unveil the new look of http://data-lake.co as well! The new branding and website reflects our updated value proposition; we are no longer just a project in the works, but rather on our way to becoming a major player in the world of medical data access, life sciences, and powering life-saving research.

🌍 Surging interest for medical data donation worldwide
We are happy to share that two new hospitals agreed to support the global data donation scheme over the past month, including a major research institute in Poland! Each additional healthcare entity represents the possibility to introduce data altruism to tens of thousands of patients, and present them with the opportunity to give consent to contributing their medical data to vital medical research.
We are also pleased to inform you that https://donateyourdata.io has a waiting list of Data Donors from over 40 countries already! We have international media and marketing campaigns lined up for the coming weeks and months, but we are ecstatic to see there’s already interest from people all over the world in donating their medical data to assist researchers and becoming an active part of the growing data altruism movement! Here’s a global map of the countries we have reached so far:
🔬 Marketing, Media & Events
Our Board Chair Ligia Kornowska has been invited to speak at several conferences in the coming months! The first is Impact Conference on the 11th of May, one of the largest and most important tech conferences in Europe! She has also been invited to represent Data Lake at the AI Medtech CEE conference on 6th of June, organized by the Polish Hospital Federation and AI In Healthcare Coalition. Finally, Ligia will also be speaking at the Technology of Tomorrow conference during a panel discussion on driving innovation in medtech from the perspective of AI and blockchain. At all of these conferences, she will be presenting to — and meeting with — key stakeholders in the healthcare and medical research industries, ensuring Data Lake and our medical data donation system is on the radar of the most important KOLs and decision-makers!
Our CTO Oliver Slapal has also been invited as a speaker for the DeSci track of BlockSplit, one of Europe’s premiere Blockchain & Science conferences! He will be speaking about medical data donation, Data Lake’s innovative use of blockchain, and why DeSci represents a fundamental and exciting shift for scientific research!
Later this month our Head of Public and International Relations Dinidh O’Brien has been invited to interview for the CMO Stories podcast, a show about inspiring conversations with marketing leaders and tech entrepreneurs from all over the world, and whose second season is focused on web3. He’ll be talking about Data Lake and why we made a conscious decision to take an ethical approach to crypto marketing.
🧬DeSci Corner
With #DeSciSummer just around the corner, interest in the topic is growing by the day. Here are some of the DeSci-related activities carried out by Data Lake and other entities over the last 30 days:
Let’s start big! Cointelegraph, one of the leading news outlets covering blockchain, crypto assets, and emerging fintech trends, published an insightful piece on the flaws of traditional finance research and data sourcing, as well as how DeSci can improve on what the Open Science movement began doing two decades ago. 📰 To read the entire article, click here!
More than a single rising voice! In the last month, multiple Twitter KOLs introduced DeSci to tens of thousands of crypto enthusiasts, and Data Lake was featured prominently in many of them! We have collected the best content with this Twitter thread, check it out!
April also saw the release of the sixth issue of our newsletter “DeSci Monthly” and the second DeSci Network Roundtable event, “Women in STEM: Trailblazers & Innovators”! This event gathered some of the top projects in web3/DeSci including FrontierDAO, AthenaDAO and more! 🔚 Final Thoughts
As we enter Q2, we’ve seen both a strong user desire to donate medical data as well as widespread interest in such data from major medical research organisations. The industry needs innovative solutions for medical data access, and thanks to our team’s hard work we are perfectly positioned to fill this demand!
Furthermore, we have been in discussions with several major web3 and blockchain entities about potential strategic partnerships. So far, these discussions have been very promising, and we are hopeful that we will be able to share more information with the community very soon!
